In the end of 19 century,Western Development are carrying out in the USA. Following,a great deal of grassland in arid-semiarid region becomes farmland.Since the mechanization was well-developed at that time, some of agricultural operations such as plowing, harrowing and sowing were used by machineries. After plowing year after year, vegetations are destroyed, soil degenerated, leading to the world-shaking American Black Storm.Due to which, the USA ruined 30,000hm2 arable lands only in 1935 and reduced winter wheat production by 5,100,000t.Such much loss caused by the American Black Storm gave rise to the consideration of traditional tillage and quest to the new method of soil and water conservation.
In 1937,after experiments, farmers in Ohioan found that the no-tillage can gain the same production in condition of guaranteeing sowing quality and weeding effectively. After experimental investigation for more than 20 years, from in the 1960s,the USA started to popularize zero-tillage,which developed so fast that it became the main tillage in the 1980s.In 1995,the no-tillage renamed to be conservation tillage.
